Coyote Colonel is an extremely well-bred son of the great NCHA Futurity Champion and NCHA Futurity Champion sire, the legendary Colonel Freckles. Colonel Freckles is in the AQHA Hall of Fame and is still on the leading sire and grandsire lists for cutting, reined cow horse, and reining. This is even more impressive considering that Colonel Freckles died in 1986 at the young age of 13. Colonel Freckles is a grandson of the legendary Sugar Bars and of AQHA Champion and Superior Cutting Horse, Rey Jay, and is double-bred Leo to boot. Coyote Colonel's dam, Katy Lynx, has her NCHA Certificate of Ability and is a daughter of Doc's Lynx, NCHA Maturity Champion and sire of earners of $390,000. and a leading maternal grandsire of performers like Shania Cee, 1999 NCHA Futurity Champion. Katy Lynx is also a granddaughter of the AQHA Champion Pawnee Eagle.
We are excited to welcome Coyote Colonel to Open Box Rafter Ranch, and we thank Randy Schmidt and family for the opportunity to bring Coyote Colonel to South Dakota and make him part of the program. We feel that he will be a great asset with his Sugar Bars and Leo genetics. For the last decade, he has been owned and loved by the Schmidt family and bred to their excellent mares; he has sired NCHA money earners in excess of $25,000, as well as offspring showing in team roping, PRCA calf roping, team penning, and team sorting. We are breeding him to daughters of Sonny Sugar, Orphan Drift, CJ Sugar, Sonny Pep San, Stans Sandoc, and Two Timin Freckles, and granddaughters of Sugar Bars, Freckles Playboy, Flit Bar, Gay Bar King, Reminic, Sak Em San, Sun Frost, Poco Bueno and we look forward to his first South Dakota crop in 2007!
